Tree surveys & TPO advice
A BS5837 survey — 'Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction' — is what planners ask for when you're building near trees. It produces a tree schedule, a constraints plan with root protection areas, and often an Arboricultural Impact Assessment and Method Statement. We also provide mortgage and homebuyer tree reports and tree-risk/safety surveys.
York is conservation-heavy and has a lot of protected trees, so a great deal of tree work here needs council consent first. We check the Tree Preservation Order and conservation-area status of your tree before any work, tell you straight whether consent is needed, and prepare and submit the application for you — TPO decisions take up to eight weeks, conservation areas six weeks, so it pays to start early.
Surveys start from around £295 for a straightforward BS5837, with impact assessments and risk reports priced on scope. If you've had a planning condition about trees, send it over and we'll tell you exactly what's required.
Tree surveys & TPO advice in York — qualified, insured, and tidy.
City of York Council keeps an online map, but it can lag and boundary trees are sometimes listed under a neighbour's address — so we confirm directly with the council's tree team before quoting any work. We handle that check for you.
It's a criminal offence. Felling or destroying a protected tree can mean a fine of up to £20,000 in the magistrates' court, and unlimited in the crown court, plus a duty to plant a replacement. It's exactly why we check first.
Most domestic tree jobs in York land between £150 and £1,500, depending on the tree's size, access and the volume of waste. A typical day with a full team is around £350–£500. Every quote is free and itemised.
Possibly — if the tree has a TPO, or sits in a conservation area with a trunk over 75mm across. York has a lot of conservation area. We check before we quote and handle the council application for you.
